In August, my friend had a "significant birthday."  She took a big leap.  Looking at her amazing photos it seemed strikingly analogous to taking a technology leap from the old, install-a-program software into cloud and cloud-like solutions.

Clouds have more fun:  Chris Preimesberger at eWeek reported last week that the subscription Web services market is expanding fast.  It's now forecast to total $109 billion in 2012 worldwide, up from projections of 12% to 15%.  "IT researcher Gartner reported September 19 that the global appetite for public cloud services is ramping up faster than it and other analysts expected," Preimesberger wrote.

Plus, the analogy is a great excuse to post great pictures!  Enjoy:

Well, one (above) doubts she's thinking, "happy birthday to me..."

Sometimes (above) you just have to do it...

This (above) is trust on so many levels...

Hire a good (above) hand that guides you...

Then (above) soon enough you get your own wings...

Your guide (above) pulls back- then you're in control...

And all too soon the shoot opens and the rest is a gentle ride.  This part is what Gartner calls the plateau of the hype cycle.

Yes, a venture into cloud is different. Yes, it's important and brave and memorable. Yes, it's a great decision.  Just make sure your trusted cloud service provider has your back!

Because at times like these, quality is in the equipment. And trust means that even if you cover your eyes, the ground will meet you amicably when you land.  Welcome to cloud computing, 2012.  Enjoy the ride!

Hope you enjoyed these pictures as much as we did!  Thanks for viewing!
And thank you, Doreen, for being brave enough to jump, and brave enough to share the pictures....
wonderful!
