EPA Seeks Research on Chemical Toxicity

Got research?
Actio Corporation would like you to know that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking applications for research in development of high-throughput assays for use in analyzing chemical data both for chemicals and for mixtures of chemicals vis a vis exposure.

Recall that in late 2010, EPA named 134 chemicals to be screened as endocrine disruptors.  This effort is towards determining / communicating how chemical exposure can be causally related to adverse, apical outcomes related to development and reproduction.

This effort is part of EPA's Science to Achieve Results (STAR) program.

Current requested applications to research chemical affects will ideally address substance toxicity modulated by:
  • chemical effects on the endocrine system, or
  • a variety of other pathways
Assay systems of interest are human-centric, that is, systems relevant to humans and relevant to other species that are relevant to human health and/or ecological risk assessment.
